In Service of the Industry and the Environment

In 1975, a lamp manufacturer in Sweden discovered that the mercury content in the blood of the work force was too high. After studying the production process, and the work environment, the manufacturer developed a mercury distiller to be able to isolate the mercury, and manage the issue. This was the start of the the saga of MRT System International AB in Karlskrona, Sweden.

During the decades that followed, MRT developed a strong position in the global market, pioneering the use of equipment which recovers mercury out from contaminated waste. Numerous projects were executed, and equipment manufactured 30 years ago, is still running, and completes its task of making the environment a bit better.

In the beginning of the new millennium, legislation making collection and recycling of end of life lamps mandatory came into force. The legislation also gave us new terminology; WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). WEEE is today an established expression for waste that contains valuable resources which could be recycled, and re-used. Hence a new industry has been created.

MRT has contributed to this industry as a supplier of systems, and equipment, which are considered to be the best in the world. Our company discovered the potential of the Asian markets early, and is today the leading supplier in this part of the world.
